September 25, 2019 - 12 - "Cup of Joe"

Any day that Michael and I wake up in the same place is cause for celebration.

We've both traveled a lot throughout our relationship. Often it's been for work, but sometimes it's to visit friends or family, and sometimes to toil away endlessly on random houses in random places.

Okay, really, we've just done this with two houses, in one foreign locale, but it's currently causing more time apart than we prefer.

Really, we've just done this with two houses, in one foreign locale, but it's currently causing more time apart than we'd prefer.

Anyway, today I'm thinking of all the things I miss when we're apart.  The list is long, but the biggest one is Michael bringing me coffee in bed.

It's not just the nice gesture, it’s the ritual around it I miss most.

It's always the same:

Michael:  Would you like some Joe?
          Me:  Joe who?
          Michael:  Joe Mama.*

---

     And we laugh.

     A lot.

     Every stinkin’ time.

---

And that is the secret to happiness: when two people are endlessly entertained by the same dumb jokes.

---
* "Yo' Mama."   (It's all in the delivery.)
---

It turns out the secret to my own personal happiness is learning lots of arbitrary and useless stuff.  I love some good research. Just to share this small moment I learned the following:

The term 'Cup of Joe' is “Possibly a shortening of "cup of jamoke", from java + mocha:
this origin was given in military officer's manual from 1931, around when the term
        first appeared.

American comedian W. C. Fields (1880-1946) often requested a 'mokka java', a blend
         of Arabian and Dutch coffee.
---

I also learned of the term's second meaning:
cup of joe (plural cups of joe
                        1.  (chiefly US, idiomatic) A cup of coffee
                        2.  (figuratively) One’s personal preference.
---

I've heard my 'cup of tea' for something you like but not ‘cup of joe’.

I love it in this context because coffee in bed, laughter, and Michael, are all definitely my cup of joe.

Roger Rabbit's response to being told his girl is cheating on him*:

     Roger Rabbit:
No! Not my Jessica! Not pattycake! It can't be!...

Jessica's the love of my life. The apple of my eye. The cream in my coffee.
     Eddie Valiant:
Well you better start drinking it black...
---
*Jessica wasn't cheating on Roger, she was nuts about him.  And why was she so crazy about him?:

Eddie Valiant:     Seriously, what do you see in that guy?
Jessica Rabbit:     He makes me laugh.
