April 14, 2020 - 214 - "Spring Cleaning / Covid Captivity House Project #1"

Covid Captivity House Project #1

Well, as Einstein suggests above, I'm trying to find the opportunity in the middle of difficult times.  In addition to my regularly scheduled ways to make myself nuts, I'm adding  'work on a house project' to my weekly plan.

It All Started Out Fine

Our flights from DFW to San Antonio and back canceled this morning.  We just had one flight to Newark and one back tomorrow (Monday) morning.

March 19, 2020 - 188 - "Of Pandemics and Productivity"

 Hell in a Handbasket

But On the bright side....  I'm really getting some shit done!

Sure our economy's going to hell in a hand basket.  People are dropping like flies with no end in site.  We're all cooped up in our houses checking our temperatures and the latest rampant rumors...but I'm trying to remember about all those things I said I'd do when I 'got time'.  When I had some time at home...

Well here we are!  I bet you've got that list in your head somewhere too.

Use that nervous energy you would spend fruitlessly worrying about the future of your family and nation...and channel it into cleaning out a closet, finishing that novel, or binge-watching all those series you haven't been able to (Hope you're  home is stocked up with a big box of Kirkland popcorn, my friends!)

I actually wrote this post three days ago.  In the past six months that's happened only...well,...never.  Not even once!

     See:  pandemics are our friends!

February 28, 2020 - 168 - "How Old Will You Be If You Don't?"

Savoring the Moment

The last few days we have been enjoying our new home in San Miguel.

     This is a first.

We enjoyed it for Day of the Dead when the kids came down...but only very briefly.

We created a house from the rubble...and then immediately had to return it to the 'Under Construction' state to finish things we couldn't get done in time for the festivities.

All this to say that there hasn't been a lot of relaxing.

We sat in the living room tonight and really looked around:    Wow.  So comfortable and pretty.

Way Beyond Our Expectations

We'd meticulously planned for, purchased for, and dreamed about each and every space.  But, now it's all in real-life 3-D...it seems a whole lot more than the sum of its parts.

January 4, 2020 - 113 - "For Whom The Squirrel Tolls"

We have these terrific wind chimes that hang above our hot tub.  They're deep and resonant, and make the yard seem peaceful and magical when they chime.

But, you can only enjoy them if you’re willing to personally go move them enough to make sound.

The problem is that they are too heavy to be blown by just any passing breeze and the high fences in our backyard keep it pretty calm back there.  Their size makes them sound deep and resonant, but it also means it takes a lot of wind to make them chime.  I love to hear them but it's not that pleasant to hang around outside during the gale force winds it takes to move them.

But that's no problem because I’ve come up with a genius solution to fix this problem.

I've decided I'd like to hire a squirrel to ring the chimes.

My preference would be for a little hunchback squirrel (LHS).  The job requires this LHS to live on top of the arbor over the hot tub...or in a nearby tree, if he prefers.

January 2, 2020 - 111 - "Decluttering Christmas"

Yesterday there were bubble lights on the mantel and icicle lights twinkling from the eaves.

Today we've gone to a Zen starkness.

     Ahhh...  New Year:  new space.

We have enjoyed coming home to see the tree peeking from behind lace curtains.  We like to sit in the living room admiring the ornaments on the tree and the garland on the stairwell.  The 'Believe' welcome mat (with jingle bells along the edges) has cheerfully greeted everyone at the door.  It's been fun to see Michael's Mom's Christmas china in the kitchen cupboards...and on the table throughout the season.

But there always comes a time when cozy charm morphs into aggravating clutter!

---

Michael was ready to take it all down on the 30th, but I was still enjoying it.  (And not yet in the mood to tackle the project of putting it all away.)

On the 31st I noticed it seemed to be getting a little bit stale.  By the morning of the 1st...it had to go.

---
We've pretty much perfected getting it all out.  There are already little nails under the railing on the stairs where the garland swag gets tacked.  There are hooks in a baggie on the garland we use on the mantel.  I know exactly where our regular china goes in the boxes.  We're a well-oiled machine when it comes to putting out Christmas....and I noticed this year that we're even faster at putting it all away.  Or maybe we felt extra-motivated this year.
