Or What Passes For Adventure These Days, Anyhow...

I made veggie scrambled eggs and leftover bacon from last nights Pancake Night, for lunch today.  (Yum!).   I was going to eat at my desk.

...but Ella caught my attention as I headed that way. She was prowling around the door to the balcony, seeming to want to go outside.

Our old house has a lot of interesting spots to hang out in.  There are so many that, at times, we forget to hang out in some of them.

The front balcony was a wasteland for us for many years.  It was, basically, a frying pan attached to the house above the porch.   Until a few years ago when the trees we planted out front grew large enough to block the beating rays of the sun, and to make it feel a bit like a treehouse up there.

Still, in the middle of a Texas summer, it's not the most inviting place to be.  We typically rediscover it when the temperatures get cool again in the fall.  But, it was very overcast today and I thought:  Why not try it out?

I guess this doesn't sound all that adventurous.  The “hazardous’ part of the definition was that it was mainly the risk of heat, but today it wasn't too hot at all.  It was downright pleasant.  Still, if you saw Ella stalking along the railing, you'd think we were in real danger.

RAWR!!!

Up On The Roof

It felt good to hear actual life ‘out there’:

-There was a woman with her daughter.   The barely-walking little girl was practicing her best toddling alongside the stroller, and holding on to her mom's hand for dear life.  We could hear snippets of their conversation wafting up to us.

-There was also the disturbing sound of wild animals.  (Feline ones!). Ella did not appreciate their presence on her block.

-And then there was a plane way up in the sky.

            ...I wasn't on it.

And I'm not going to be on it for a long time.

                         And that's just so weird.

And this whole world is kind of strange right now when you think of it.  Which you shouldn't because that's just life and it's full of crazy twists and turns and it wouldn't be life if it weren't like that.

And, in the end, that's what makes life itself...quite an Interesting Adventure.

I did enjoy my lunch.

A Small Adventure

...but it lifted my spirits to think there are small discoveries around every corner.

Besides, it's a known fact that Ella can find adventure anywhere.  Here she is posing as an International Cat of Mystery, spying on me from her hiding place in a bin behind my desk.  She got up there so stealthily i didn’t even realize she was there til she stirred.   Then her ears were the first thing to give her away.

Daily Hits of Happy

-Michael and I sat in the dining room having dinner and thinking about how, back in 1999, we sat on a pile of lumber in the living room.  Way back when we were restoring this sad, bedraggled, and condemned old house.
We tried to imagine it being a real home someday.  (With real windows and real plumbing and real furniture...)
After dinner we sat on the couch and imagined the heart attack we would have had if we'd really been able to see how it all turned out.  (We also imagined saying:  'Hey!  Who are those old people in our dining room!?!?')
-Having real fun, with a real guy, that I've known for a real long time now.  :-)
-Remembering all of the fun events that have happened in this house through the years...and trying to imagine the ones coming in the future.
