July 31, 2020 - 322 - "YouTube Wormholes"

 Chasing Wild Geese

Wow.  Distracted, much?   I just checked out my YouTube Watch History and I can't believe the circuitous path of passing interests and fascinations it reveals.

It all started off with perfectly good intentions.

While eating my lunch I thought I'd watch something inspirational.  TED talks are usually informative and interesting so I started there.

I found one by Master Shi Heng Yi entitled "5 Hindrances to Self-Mastery".  It had some really good information and was, legitimately, helpful and inspiring.

But, well, somehow that led to another TED talk.  This one was by Janine Driver, entitled:  "Reading Body Language".  It was fascinating.  All about how to spot deception and psychoses through a speaker's body language.

I'll let you draw your own conclusions about how the next recommended video that came up happened to be a speech by Donald Trump.

     (Yeah.  No comment.)

I don't know the logic of the next suggested video:

It was another TED talk called:  "I've lived as a Man and a Woman--Here's What I Learned."

Wow!  I highly recommend this video.  It's a talk by Paula Williams, a woman who was formerly a man, and known by the name of Paul Williams.

Here's where it really gets intriguing:  Paul Williams was a minister for a conservative religious organization.

I love this person.  Talk about a unique perspective on life.  And a voice of experience for living authentically.

     Wow.

Out of curiosity, I watched a sermon by Paul Williams (as a man).  A very likable human being, no matter the gender or religious persuasion.

I then watched two more talks about Paula's relationship with her son...who is now a minister himself.  As if inter-generational relationships aren't challenging enough already.  They overcame a lot.

But It Didn't Stop There...

Somewhere in all of these videos, I got a suggestion for another TED talk called:  "The Question I Almost didn't Ask and How it Changed My Life."  The woman on the little video icon looked familiar.

Who is that?, I wondered.  Which led to me clicking on it and learning about Rita Wilson and her very interesting family - a Bulgarian father, and Greek mom.  In that video, I discovered that she made an appearance on The Brady Bunch.  Huh?

Yep.  She tried out for cheerleader.  Somehow Greg Brady was one of the judges and Marsha and Greg's girlfriend were also trying out.  Greg had to cast the tie-breaking vote...and chose Pat Conway (aka Rita Wilson).

This is when I 'came to' and realized I had seen far too many YouTube videos...and that I no longer had any time (or mental focus) for writing a post today.

    lol

So, in lieu of any original thoughts of my own, watch this intriguing video.  It contains some really good stuff about authenticity, equality, relationships...and the uselessness of women's blue jean pockets.

I got a lot out of it.
