July 13, 2020 - 304 - "Masking Old Habits"

Who Was That Masked Woman?

Not only do I waste perfectly good lipstick by smearing it inside of masks, but I also tend to maintain a steady stream of smiles for random strangers...who can't see me smiling.   It's all very strange.

I saw some masks that could, theoretically, fix this problem:  they have clear plastic in front of the mouth.  It seems like it might be good for maintaining more connection with other humans.  My concern is all the lipstick smudges that would surely get on it, and the breath fog, and the spit.

Seems like you'd have to keep wiping that plastic a lot.  I feel like I'd learn quickly how much I spit if I wore a sheet of clear plastic in front of my mouth all day.

"Well, we all have a face
That we hide away forever
And we take them out
And show ourselves when everyone has gone
Some are satin, some are steel
Some are silk and some are leather
They're the faces of a stranger
But we'd love to try them on."

-Billy Joel "The Stranger"

"Where lipstick is concerned,

the important thing is not color,

but to accept God's final word on where your lips end."

-Jerry Seinfeld

"Without wearing any mask we are conscious of,

we have a special face for each friend."

-Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
