July 11, 2020 - 302 - "The Power of Surprise"

There's Comfort in the Familiar...

I've been loving the strange normality of waking up and going to sleep in the same place every day.  I've loved having weeks and months of daily communing with Ella.  I love being able to plan what I'll do (all the habits I've set up) and eat (whatever one of us cooks) and who I'll see (Michael and Ella...and sometimes my parents and their doctors or nurses.)...

But, The Best Parts of Life Are Unplanned

When you go on a trip, you can only plan so much.  Like where you're going or who you'll see...  And in these crazy days, you plan the masks and gloves, the hand sanitizer, and where to get food and gas with the least interaction with humans...

But You Can't Plan Everything...

You don't plan to look over and see a helicopter picking up a huge square box and moving it around...

You don't plan to see a single  pasture managing to contain  a longhorn steer, horses, a wagon, and a couple of dinosaurs...

You don't plan on the car's outside temperature gauge reading 115 degrees in the Panhandle...and 65 degrees two hours later when you get into a sudden squall in New Mexico...

'

And you certainly don't plan to be driving along and look over and see this...

Daily Hits of Happy

-I've always loved road trips, but three months at home makes me appreciate every road sign, each bump in the road, and especially...every funny, odd, unfamiliar, unexpected thing along the way.
-Having my favorite road trip sidekick by my side all day and laughing at it all together.
-Though the unexpected is nice, tradition is also nice.  It's a guarantee whenever we see this on the side of the road, or on a truck, or just baled on someone’s land...

Michael is going to say:  "Hay!"

...which is extra-funny because we were together about five years before I stopped thinking he was randomly saying:  "Hey!", and realized what part of the scenery he was referring to.
