July 20, 2020 - 311 - "Banning Bummers"

Don't Bring Me Down

When I was leaving the airport 15 weeks ago, walking through a near-empty terminal, I could hear two things:  1). My footsteps (This was before the airlines started selling tickets cheaper than a hot dog at the ballpark.), and 2) Don McLean's "Starry Starry Night".

To be clear, I have always really liked this song.   But never once did I think it was an uplifting song.  And it was the last thing I needed to hear that day.  Seriously, I like a good tear-jerker song as much as the next person, but public places during world pandemics are neither the time nor the place.

-Door Dash Ben and Jerry's delivery.  (First time I gave in to this since the pandemic began.  But I vowed yesterday that I would get back to healthy eating today....so naturally last night seemed to be a good time to order Phish Food.  Michael said he didn't want any...but I got him Cherry's Garcia so he was powerless to resist.)

"That's how I know that I've written a good song for myself -

it's when I start crying."

-Adele

"When no hope was left inside

On that starry, starry night

You took your life as lovers often do

But I could have told you, Vincent

This world was never meant

For one as beautiful as you."

                         -Don McLean

"Many times over the years

when Don McLean

was asked to explain the meaning of

the lyrics to the song "American Pie"

he would answer that the meaning was

"I will never have to work again."
