June 15, 2020 - 276 - "My Natural Habitat"

Home Grown Heaven

I've started a new morning routine where I take my coffee, day planner, notebooks, and pens and go sit in the back yard.  I keep wondering;  has it been an especially beautiful spring?  Or am I just here to actually take note of the fact?

Our backyard is full of life everywhere I look.  The squirrels and birds and butterflies and bugs have all been out in force.  It's like my own personal episode of Wild Kingdom.  Marlin Perkins hasn't shown up...but I do keep getting the Mutual of Omaha jingle stuck in my head.

Perennial Favorites

Years ago we bricked in a lot of our small back yard.  We're always amazed at how quickly we can whip it into shape in the spring and put it all to bed for winter.

And the ultimate in low-maintenance back yard pleasures is that joyous time when perennials start shooting up from their winter's sleep.

So many came back this year.  It's been so pretty.  Michael got plants to fill the pots and baskets and a few fillers for the beds...but mostly they're all old friends who've come back again to enjoy this peaceful little paradise with us.

I've been so busy staring and admiring that I've been lax about taking photos so a couple of these pictures are from past years...but it's pretty much what we're seeing right now.

I always dreamed when I was a little girl interested in animals that I would go live in Africa.  Then I found out that you can look in your backyard, and you can do your own safari."
