September 2, 2020 - 355 - "Forced to Live in the Moment"

 Zen:  (adjective)
a state of calm attentiveness in which one's actions are guided by intuition rather than by conscious effort.

I'm Super-Zen

     ...in Spanish.

Not because I've meditated and breathed my way into oneness with each moment.  Nope.  I just don't know how to adjust my verbs to indicate the future and the past.

Trying

I'm attempting to learn the finer points of conversational Spanish.  (Okay, the duller points would be helpful too.)  But, dang, I'm struggling!

    Today I read this article:

Past Tense Spanish:  Explained For Beginners
       -by Adrian in 'Basic Grammar'

"The idea of learning past tense Spanish is often something that many beginners learning Spanish find daunting.

Especially when you find out that we use five different tenses to speak about the past."

Honestly, I wish I hadn't read that.  The writer did go on to explain the different tenses and give comparable English examples.   He also provided a handy chart.  I need that chart tattooed on the back of my hand...but the back of my hand is going to get pretty crowded if I put everything there that I regularly forget.

And we haven't even addressed the future.  How many ways are there to express the future?!

Back to the Zen

I guess the lesson is to be in the moment...the ongoing moment of being a horrible Spanish speaker.  (Ha.  That's misleading.  Seriously, I aspire to one day be a bad Spanish speaker.)

For now, I'm just a person who knows enough to get me in over my head with every conversation I attempt.

So, okay, that's where I am.  I embrace the crappy.  I live in the moment!

     Ohhhmmmm......

Daily Hits of Happy

-I finished the current batch of drawings for Roberto, our carpenter.  Our tape measure has gotten so much use I thought it was going to melt.  It took a lot of measuring spaces, and then measuring the things that will go into the various shelves, drawers, and cabinets.  It would be a drag to have something custom-made and not be able to instore the intended stuff in it. Or, worse, a cabinet that didn't fit in the place it's supposed to live.

-Our 'Stairway to Heaven' is nearly tiled.

Living In The Moment

    by Jason Mraz

"I will not waste my days
making up all kinds of ways
To worry about all the things
That will never happen to me

So I just let go of what I know I don't know
And I know I only do this by
Living in the moment
Living my life
Easy and breezy
With peace in my mind
With peace in my heart
Peace in my soul
Wherever I'm going, I'm already home
Living in the moment."

---

"It's ungrateful to be wishing you were doing something else
at the moment you are living.
You haven't lived in the moment that you are really living,
you are wishing you were somewhere else."

-Suzanne Farrell

---

"Perhaps that is the zen of gardening -

you become one with the plants,

lost in the rhythm of the tasks at hand."

-Irene Virag
