November 30, 2019 - 78 - "One Sick Puppy"

A lone figure huddles over a computer in a darkened room wearing sweatpants, a thick sweater, heavy socks, dirty house shoes, and a scarf...though it's 70 degrees out.

The hair is unwashed and sweaty.  It's covered with a thick wool hat pulled down below the eye sockets to block out the small amount of light coming through a crack in the curtains.

The posture is slumped, the fingers are wrapped around a mug of something hot.

---

Someone calls up from below.  The figure squeaks out an answer, but no one hears.  The question is repeated, then repeated again.  The strained voice can't be heard from more than a couple of feet away.

They pull the hat completely over their eyes and rest their head on the desk.  "Woe is me." the figure says.

     But no one hears.

---

Okay, okay.  That pathetic figure is me.  I'm sick and feeling worse by the minute.  I'm three days into this cold and it feels like it's going to last forever.

---

The surprising/slightly comforting news is:  Being a blogger means never having to worry about losing your voice, dressing like the Unabomber, or holing up at home for days on end.

The bad news:  The lack of brain function and tendency to fall asleep mid-sentence, however, is a problem.

"Blogging is to writing what extreme sports are to athletics: more free-form, more accident-prone, less formal, more alive.  It is, in many ways, writing out loud."
