October 21, 2019 - 38 - "The Sound of Sunshine(*)"

I went to Noisili this morning to set up my usual 'Virtual Writing Cafe'.  (September 23, 2019 - 10 - "Where I Write".) . This, of course, involves the sound of rain, thunder, and coffee house chatter.

For once, it didn't feel quite right.  Probably because it rained last night.  I woke up several times in the night to lightning flooding the room, and the sounds of thunder and of rain hitting the house.  Kind of gave storm sounds a 'been there/done' that feeling.

I thought I'd rather find a 'sunny-morning-after-a-storm cafe' to write in, instead of my usual 'rainy-afternoon-cafe'.

First I turned on the 'cafe' chatter and clatter' sounds...very low.  The quiet hubbub part still felt right.  But I was at a loss for the sound of a sunny morning cafe.  If I had a smell-feature app (Scentili ?) I'd have the smells of wet dirt, rain, bacon, and coffee wafting through the room.

Since I just have the sounds option I tried to find something that would set the sunny morning vibe.  No luck.  I moved on to YouTube sound effects.  There was a recording of 'sunny day birds singing".  It was nice, except in the background was the sound of planes flying over, or wind, or maybe it was the rumbling of a distant rock quarry.  I wasn't sure, but it wasn't nice.  I tried several, and finally got to a relaxing mountain meadow that had the right sounds of distant birds chirping...without the disturbing sound effects of their habitats potentially being destroyed around them.

What I couldn't find was something I realize doesn't have an actual sound:  The Sound of Sunshine.  I guess that's obvious, but I imagined I'd find some sort of low pulsar-ish sound.  A beaming sort of sound.  Kind of a gentle 'waaaaahhh wah wahhh', if you see (hear) what I mean.

In the end I decided I didn't need any virtual reality to enhance my writing space.   It was, after all an actual 'sunny morning after a big thunderstorm', so ya know, I just went with the reality of the moment, for once.

Well, I kept the coffee shop sounds.  No need to throw the baby out with the...rainwater.

Maybe it's just the sound of that phrase:   the sound of sunshine*.  I'm in love with.  It's like the 'Sound of Silence', with the beautiful and poetic alliteration I love, yet so much, ya know:  sunnier.

Anyway, I hope today all of your vibes are happy and they have fun soundtracks to go with them.  Have a great sunshiny-day!

* Note from the day after I wrote this:

So I wrote this post yesterday.  Some hours later I noticed I'd been humming a little tune       all afternoon.  What's that song?  (My Conscious Self said to my Unconscious Song-
Stylist Self.)   "Oh.  Let me sing it for you again:  "Here I am...waiting for the storm to
pass me by, and that's the sound of sunshine coming down!"

I didn't come up with that line...I stole it.  I kept thinking it was a nice turn of phrase

that I'd brilliantly invented.  But I realize I thought it sounded 'right' because I've heard           it plays a lot on my exercise music mix.

It's a song called (duh on me):  "The Sound of Sunshine" by Michael Franti and
Spearhead.   YouTube it.  It's very good.   (Sorry Michael and Spearhead...I didn't
     intentionally swipe your line.)

"After every storm the sun will smile; for every problem there is a solution, and the soul's indefeasible* duty is to be of good cheer.

-William R. Alger

"Birds sing after a storm; why shouldn't people feel as free to delight in whatever sunlight remains to them?"

-Rose Kennedy

*I thought this was a typo and looked up the quote in several places.  Turns out it not.  I learned a new word.  Here it is, in case it's new to you too:

indefeasible-not able to be lost, annulled, or overtuned.
