March 28, 2020 - 197 - "Life As Disney Musical!"

All Singing!  All Dancing!  All the time!

"All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players."  -William Shakespeare

Oh, Bill,...if only that were true.   *Sigh*

I would like life to be a play; with scripts filled with brilliant words of wisdom, plus a few great zingers from time to time.  But what I would like even more, hell, what I would downright love and adore, would be for life to be a damned musical...with Disney-esque touches all over the place.

There'd always be a full orchestra, naturally.  The cello at the ready to emphasize my moments of sadness, and a flute to join along as I skip along in happier times.

Also, and this part is crucial:  the skipping would all be choreographed beautifully.

A Song for Every Situation!

And I'd have songs to sing for every moment:  songs about falling in love, songs about winning, songs about losing, songs about having fun, songs about loss.  You name it.

Hell, since it's all of life we're turning into a musical,  there'd have to be celebratory songs about finding a parking space near a store on a rainy day, and songs for sloshing through the mud, cursing the person who took your up-front parking.

    How fun would that be?

There will be songs for commuting to work.  The cars will all be choreographed to a lively, upbeat tune.   No one cuts anyone off because it's all organized.  Instead they make pleasant patterns and tap on their brakes all at the same times to make fun patterns and rhythms.

I'll waltz through the aisles closing overhead bins in time to the cadence passengers tap out on their tray tables.  Maybe even an homage to Busby Berkley as passengers make hand and arm motions all at one time, while flight attendants samba up the aisle.  Ahhh...the fun of it all!

As I get ready for the service, bluebirds fly through the window, tie my apron, then wave goodbye as they flit back out the window and do aeronautic dips and dives.  (Pressurization and altitude are not issues in my Musical Theater World.)  Clouds and sunsets scroll by the windows-repeating images a couple of times per minute.

It’ll be a sell-out!  Standing room only!  The feel-good job of the season!

I'll tap dance tap my way through the terminal, hopping on and off of the special assistance carts, perhaps spinning a little old man around in his wheelchair, and leaving the red outline of a kiss on his bald head.

Every day will be more fun than the one before!  Everyone will be in the spirit.

I'll go home and pluck ever-in-bloom roses from our garden to make a bouquet.  Cleaning and household maintenance will all be accompanied by fabulous soundtracks.  Then Michael and I will pass a pleasant all-singing, all-dancing hour as we prepare a gourmet feast to a festive chorus about food and health and happiness!

Untouched by Reality of Any Sort

Luckily, like with those bluebirds flitting around on airplanes, I am completely unconcerned about the fact that I can neither sing, nor dance.

Neither am I worried about how an orchestra is going to fit in my Miata, or how Ella will react to the bass drum.

    In my vision...it's all perfect.

Self-Psycho-Analysis of this Post

I suppose the real reason this sounds even better to me than usual is the uncertainty of the times.

In most Disney movies and most musicals...struggles are faced...but everything turns out right in the end.

I'd like some reassurance right now that "We all live Happily Ever After" is the end of this chapter.

"I love fantasy.  I love horror.  I love musicals.  Whatever doesn't really happen in life is what I'm interested in.  As a way of commenting on everything that does happen in life, because ultimately the only thing I'm really interested in is people."

-Joss Whedon

"I come from musical theater, and a lot of musical theater is about accepting fantasy.  I think it is more about just being open and accepting."

"I see the dance being used as a means of expressing what is too deep, too fine for words."
