May 27, 2020 - 257 - "2020 College Grads Left Without A Keg to Stand On"

Communities Unable to Commune

Horn honking seems to be the best the community, as a whole, can do these days.  There have been some Parades of Graduates around the neighborhood.

There have been some online graduations.  I guess the good news is you can wander off to get a snack after your child with the surname starting with 'A' is mentioned....then show back up after the 'Z's have all been honored.  The Valedictorians probably won't feel as nervous...since they'll probably pre-record the speech in their bedroom.  And who's gonna sit through all of that anyhow?

I guess they don't have to go buy stuff to be-dazzle the tops of their motherboards.  There won't be family and friends up in the nosebleed seats of some auditorium this year.  No clever "I R Smart Now," or "Hire Me!" or "Thanks Mom and Dad!" necessary.

Also on the bright side; the kids won't have to work out elaborate excuses to cut out on the family so they can go hook up with their friends.  They can just tear open any envelopes with cash and head out to...oh wait.  Not much place to head out to most places, I suppose.

It sounds like some colleges are delaying the graduations hoping at some point they will be able to have a more traditional ceremony.

Jobless

So the community launches kids into their new lives.

Which, of course, involves going back home to live with their parents.

Not only is it sad that this rite of passage is denied them, but what a tough time to be entering the job market.

Kids and parents alike are probably freaking out.  Kids have to try to shoehorn their beds into their former bedroom-turned-into mom's craft room.   Parents have to be home from work...with grown kids who are home from...no work.

I'm pretty sure one or the other of these groups will be the ones to invent a workable vaccine.  Forget inspiration and perspiration...they've got motivation on their sides.

Daily Hits of Happy

-Caught up on laundry...and even ironing!  This never happens and seems to be because of the tiny amount of clothes I kept out for spring.  I'm kind of digging this.  It makes me wash clothes more often, but I'm less overwhelmed by the amount of things that could use an iron.  (Or, well, usually just a quick pass of the mini-steamer.)

-Things still look good for mom coming home on Friday

-Ella sitting on the pillow on my desk...making funny little snoring noises
