April 18, 2020 - 218 - " Eradicating An Ear Worm"

Method 1:  Ebony and Ivory

I have it on good authority (my sister-in-law) that a sure-fire way to get rid of any ear worm is to start singing "Ebony and Ivory".

Let me just say that I, too, was skeptical.

I hadn't thought of the song since approximately the summer of 1982 when it's quick rise led to an equally quick disappearance from my (and, I believe, the world's) consciousness.

I only vaguely remembered that I'd liked it at the time.   (Turns out I just like Stevie and Sir Paul and, apparently, was willing to give them kudos for the intent of the song.)

However, if you try singing it to yourself you will quickly realize just how incredibly tedious and boring the song is.  At that point you will either fall asleep, or start googling the least painful options for suicide.

Because of the suicidal thoughts side-effect I recommend you use this only in the most extreme circumstances.  (Such as if you have "867-5309", or Beck's "Loser", stuck in your head.)

     Otherwise opt for Method 2...

Method 2:  Karaoke!

Here is a way to vanquish lingering ear worms, fill your lungs with lots of healthy oxygen, boost your immunity with good vibes, and just all-around have a ton of fun!:

Steps to Ear Worm Eradication - Method 2

1-Think of a song you like to sing to on the radio.  (Remember when you used to actually ride around in your car going all those places you used to go?)
    2-Go to YouTube
3-Type in the name of the song you thought of, followed by the word:  "Karaoke"
4-Sing the provided lyrics with the background music that comes on.
    5-Be Happy.

(Hint:  Singing the original ear worm can sometimes help remove it from your brain, as in when your brain is trying to figure out the line that comes after "talking to Davy, who's still in the Navy"...  But, typically, it's best to try a new song.)

"Karaoke divides humanity into two groups:  those who don't want to sing and shouldn't be compelled, and those who do and shouldn't be allowed."
