April 4, 2020 - 204 - “If Things Weren’t So Bad…They’d Be Great!

So Many Things Are Just GREAT!

  • There's little-to-no traffic.
  • Upfront parking is available almost everywhere  (Everywhere except grocery stores)
  • We're having so many home-cooked meals!  (Suddenly there's time to whip up all those gourmet meals we said we’d be into making ‘someday’.)
  • Lots and lots of quality family time!
  • Time to catch up on projects
  • Time to weed the yard!
  • Time to learn that something new:  a language, instrument, new skill.  All that stuff we've always said we'd work on 'when I have time'
  • Unlimited time for exercise.  (Wasn't this a big excuse not to?  Who has time for that?)
  • Dolphins in the canals in Venice!  (Turns out this was just a thing that sounded so good it made the rounds before someone debunked the idea.)  But I did just hear, from a source more reliable than 'some guy on Facebook', that carbon emissions are down by 8%! (4-30-20)
  • Clearer skies
  • Less fossil fuels getting burned
  • We can withdraw from our 401Ks with no penalty if the virus has messed with our jobs
  • There's hardly anyone at airport security check points...or on the flights...or, well, anywhere!
  • More time with our pets!
  • Time off!  (Looooots of it!)
  • Tons of time to organize finances, look into cutting unnecessary expenses…
  • Time to learn about FaceTime and Zoom and other ways to interact without cooties
  • We’re reminded of what’s really important:  health, family, friends, community…and freedom!...

Of course, many of these good things point right at the bad:
What finances are there to manage?
We're cooking at home...'cause there are a lot less other options...and, well, freedom is a relative term, isn't it?

Seize the Day(s....)

Still, it's good to know the 'Someday’ we always talk about, has arrived!  We've got all kinds of time to work on those great projects we’ve always wanted to 'get around to'!

Personally, I'm going to put together a list of stuff I've always wanted to take time out of all the busyness to do.

Then I'll aim at crossing some stuff off of my list.

---

But first: I've got to get the hell back home.  I'm writing this from the echoing hotels, hallways and concourses 'out here' and I'll tell you that it's a very weird place.  Being on the road is losing a whole lot of its appeal.

Any 'good stuff-in-bad times' stuff happening over in your neck of the woods?
