August 11, 2020 - 333 - "Can't Wait to Look Back on These Times"

Self-Isolating...In Public

No worries about being pushed together with people at the airport:  DFW was a ghost town.

We waited for the slowest time and the emptiest flight and had a row of seats to ourselves on the plane.  There was almost no one on the flight so getting our bags, and going through customs and immigration was definitely social-distanced.

Our plan was to get to our house, order food, and socially-isolate for about ten days to make sure we hadn't brought anything down from traveling.

...but that was before we knew our refrigerator was kaput.

So, first thing on Monday, we donned our masks, doused on the antiseptic, and went out on the hunt for a new refrigerator.

An Abundance of Caution

Our first stop looking for a 'fridge was at Liverpool.  Liverpool is a Mexican department store.  It's really upscale for things like clothes, but we've been told they have good sales.

To get into the store you have to stand on the marked squares and wait your socially-distanced turn.  Then you walk through these little trays with some sort of antiseptic (??) in them.  Then they check your temperature with a wand thing over your arm.  Then you take a squirt of hand sanitizer....  Then you're allowed inside.

They had a refrigerator that was more than we wanted to pay, but it had the side by side design we wanted and came in this really badass-looking black stainless steel.  (It really did look cool...plus it would allow us to stop shopping and go back home ). We said we'd take it.

The salesman said:  "Great.  We'll deliver in two weeks."

Huh?  Who buys a fridge and waits two whole weeks for it?  I guess if you're buying for a new house, or just want to upgrade to match your fabulous new decorating scheme.

McProtected

Liverpool is out on the edge of town and the outdoor mall.  We were starving (since we ate only dry cereal for breakfast).  So, before finding another place to search for refrigerators, we stopped at a McDonald's.  (Yeah, yeah, I know...we usually eat local.  But when you're starving and it's right there...)

McDonald's had even more elaborate checks than Liverpool.  They've rearranged the entire restaurant so one area is for ordering, and another is for pick up...and no one gets near anyone else.

I'm not sure why my phone switched to black and white for this photo...but you get the idea.

This young lady ran a very tight ship.

Luckily, we only had to go through all these checks one other time, at an appliance store.  They had a refrigerator that we like okay.  The price was much better than that black stainless steel one that turned our heads...and they're delivering it tomorrow.

Woohoo...then we'll order food...and start isolating from the Major Appliance Mission.

I hope you all are McWell, McHappy and Mc-Protected!  And that you have a working refrigerator.
