August 12, 2020 - 334 - "Tile, Though Your Head is Aching"

Who Can Turn the World On With Her Tile?

(Sorry - that just came to me: We've been watching Mary Tyler Moore episodes lately.)

I agree whole-heartedly with Jaclyn Smith's quote above...usually.  I just love, love, love old houses.  Give me a challenge any day!  I just adore a good project!...usually.

Today, however, I'd like to sell all of our worldly possessions and move into an ultramodern furnished apartment...where I call someone when a lightbulb burns out.

I Don't Speak the Language

I'm really not equipped to do the stuff I've been working on lately.

I don't speak Spanish, I don't know Mexican cultural norms, I don't understand the metric system, and I don't speak 'tile.'  Even back at home, I can never quite get the computations right for how many tiles are needed to cover a particular area.

Can't Do It - Don't Wanna!

Luckily, being unqualified for something is something I do understand.  I see it as more of a wall-to-be-scaled, than a barricade.

But, I don't know, today, I'm just not up to the challenge.

I think it's telling that Mexico is famous for the siesta.  It's a beautiful invention!  Between the intense sun and the brain-straining calculations, it was an absolute must for me today.  (Ella, of course, encouraged the notion.)

I did wake up feeling a bit better and got right back to work on my computations.  I figured out the square footage of the area I want to cover.  I figured out the square footage the individual tiles I want will cover.  ...and, I think, maybe, I figured out how many tiles I need.  Then I added 20%...just in case, as the YouTube tile dude said I should.  And I think I have my answer!  I need 196.3, 6.25", Primavera Negra tiles to create the shower wall of my dreams for our rooftop casita.

Final Answer?

...and I'll recheck those numbers in the morning.

Daily Hits of Happy

-We got a new refrigerator!  (We were so thrilled not to have to buy one when we got this house that we didn't notice how much the 30-year-old (or more?), dinged-up, fridge, brought our remodeled kitchen down.  The new one is super-amazing.  (And even better than that expensive black stainless would have been.)
-Only one more day of no fridge!  (You're supposed to let it sit before you turn it on.  Did you know this?  The store told us this, but I doubted it.  Then I looked it up.  It's a thing.  Especially if it's been moved sideways.  Which this one definitely was.)
-I've never been so excited to buy groceries and cook at home.
-Did I mention that Ella's here with us?
