Return to Our Italian Restaurant...

We love the restaurant.  We love the food.  We love the owner/chef and the hostess/waitress/and chief bottle-washer.  They're great.

It's a charming tiny restaurant.  It looks out on a beautiful, winding, and ancient street.

But the Music...?

In this tiny microcosm of the world, a Romanian pan-flute artist reigns supreme.

He plays covers of some of the world's saddest songs.  On one evening we heard 'All By Myself' and 'The Sound of Silence' back to back.

It could have only gotten more depressing if he broke into one of those 50's teen-car-crash songs, or 'Dust in the Wind'...or 'Starry Starry Night'.

"So, when you divide the world into music lovers,
music fans and then those people who are just very casual about their music,
it's wallpaper to them, it's elevator music,
it's just the thing that's playing in the background that helps them through their day."

-Michael Stipe

(This is not us.  We are still talking about what songs played at restaurants we went to 20 years ago.)

"Creativity is an inherent human quality of the highest order.

When we create, we become more than the sum of our parts."

-Yanni

"When you hear the first five seconds to a song

and you've pretty much heard the whole song,

that's kind of a bummer."

-Chino Moreno

"I can never make up my mind if I'm happy being a flute player,

or if I wish I were Eric Clapton."

-Ian Anderson

"When you work you are a flute through whose heart
the whispering of the hours turns to music.
Which of you would be a reed,
dumb and silent,
when all else sings together in unison?"

-Kahlil Gibran
