August 20, 2020 - 342 - “Staging Your Life”

Staging Your House...For Yourself

Cleaning Up the Mess

We’ve been in Mexico for about a week and a half. I’ve been working at a desk in the den.

The view from the den is of a little courtyard.

For this past week, it's been a complete disaster.

I kept meaning to sweep it out and wash down the furniture but just kept thinking:  'Eh...I’ll do that tomorrow.'

Worth It

When I finally did clean it up yesterday I couldn't believe how much nicer it looked.

After clearing out the leaves, dirt, and debris, I put out the outdoor cushions and moved the chairs back where they go.

Voila'!

Instead of looking like an eyesore, (and like just another item on my to-do list), it looked like an inviting oasis.

Which made me wonder:  Why did I wait?

Staging For Ourselves

It’s funny how we think of staging only to sell a house.  On real estate shows, after making a house perfect to get ready to show it, the owners often say they should have had the house like that the whole time.

It’s easier to notice postponed maintenance and clearing-out that needs to be done when you think of potential buyers.

When it’s our own day-to-day environment, it almost becomes invisible.

I read somewhere that you should walk through your house with a notepad and imagine you're showing it to a realtor to put it on the market.  I've tried it and it does a great job of making you see your house through new eyes - even if you don't want to sell it, you'll end up with some things you want to change.

Show Some Love

I’m glad I finally gave the courtyard a little love  My efforts were rewarded.  I now am really enjoying what I see every time I look up from the computer.

My whole point being:  Don’t forget to stage your house for the most important people - the ones who live in it.

     Enjoy!

Daily Hits of Happy

-The first pieces of stone have been placed on the new walls of the upper rooftop of our house.

-We had a great 'walk-the-40' early-evening on the roof

-The views are so all-encompassing, we're thinking we need swivel chairs to fully appreciate them.
